How to Get Verified on WhatsApp Business: The Green Checkmark Explained

The green checkmark signals to customers that Meta has confirmed your business identity. Here is what it actually requires, how long it takes, and why most applications get rejected.

What the checkmark does and does not mean

The green checkmark next to a business name on WhatsApp means Meta has verified the account belongs to the business it claims to represent — it does not boost delivery, improve your quality rating, or unlock extra features on its own. Its real value is trust: customers are far more willing to tap through to a verified number, and it reduces the chance of being mistaken for an impersonation account, which is common for well-known brands on WhatsApp.

The baseline requirements

Meta verifies the business behind the account, so every requirement traces back to proving that identity cleanly and consistently across documents.

  • A completed Meta Business Manager profile with a legal business name that matches official registration documents exactly
  • A business website that is live, matches the business name, and is not under construction
  • A phone number already connected to a WhatsApp Business Account through the API
  • Business documentation (registration certificate, tax ID, or equivalent) depending on country

Why most first applications get rejected

The rejection reasons are almost always mundane mismatches rather than anything exotic, which makes them avoidable with a careful pass before submitting.

  • The name in Meta Business Manager does not exactly match the legal name on registration documents (including punctuation and abbreviations)
  • The website does not clearly state what the business does or lacks basic contact information
  • The business category selected does not match what the website actually shows
  • Multiple WhatsApp numbers or Business Manager accounts exist for the same business with inconsistent details

Timeline and what to do while you wait

Verification review typically takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on the market and documentation required. There is no way to pay to expedite it. In the meantime, the WhatsApp number works normally — verification does not gate basic sending or receiving, so there is no reason to delay launching support or notifications while the review is pending.

After approval

Once verified, keep the Business Manager profile, website, and legal entity name in sync going forward — a later mismatch (a rebrand, a new legal entity after an acquisition) can trigger a re-review and, in rare cases, a temporary loss of the badge until the records are reconciled.

Run the WhatsApp Business API without the busywork
